Today I will not be going out. Oddly, I have been drawn to sitting indoors and making a list of menopausal symptoms instead – the main reason being that I would like to establish how S for sorry for myself I should be feeling.
It is true that there are a large variety of symptoms. However, what is not true is that we all experience the same. We are unique, not only in the ones we experience but also in the way we experience them.
And it got me wondering how I would fare amongst the rest, and which of them applied to me, so I made a list of major ones as that way I could see.
- Hot flushes – Yes
- Night sweats – Yes
- Poor sleep – Yawn
- Migraines – No
- Mood swings – Yes, no, yes, no
- Stress – Si (I was a Spanish student)
- Teary – Sniff, sniff
- Sore breasts – No
- Low libido – Zero libido
- Depression – Shades of blue
- Aggression – Ashamedly
- Anxiety – Already there
- Losing the plot – Frequently
- Brain fog – VTF (very thick fog)
- Aching joints – No
- Easily irritated – WHO, ME?
- Deep sadness – Beyond sad
- Dizzy spells – Non (I was a French student)
- Itches – Downstairs
- Memory loss – Who? What? Where? Who?
- Bloating – No
- Not feeling like yourself – Who am I?
- Constipation – From birth
- Dry vagina – No, praise the Lord
- Saggy skin – Crepe
- Poor digestion – Six vomits. This year
- Thinning hair – What hair? Ugh
- Incontinence – The kitchen floor. Thrice.
I was pleased that I completed this exercise and could see that I should no longer feel 100% sorry for myself. Seventy per cent is what I should feel, and I am partly grateful for that.
That said, I know a symptom can strike at any time.
Unannounced and uninvited.
And I shall continue to stand on guard until the coast is clear.
